Eye Conditions & Diseases

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the usually clear, natural crystalline lens of your eye. The aging process is the most common cause of clouding, but it can also be caused by eye trauma, heredity, diabetes, and even some medications. Cataracts are currently the leading cause of preventable blindness in the world.

Detached Retina

A detached retina is a tear or hole in the retina that may cause distorted, dim, or impaired vision in people who are myopic as they age, people who have had cataract surgery, or people who have had a head injury. Cases of the detached retina may become more frequent as the world's population ages.

Diabetic Retinography

Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that affects people with Type I and Type II diabetes and causes damage to the blood vessels within the retina, resulting in reduced vision and blindness. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness in the United States. Extreme vision loss and even blindness can occur if the damaged vessels leak blood. The number of people diagnosed with diabetes around the world would almost certainly lead to an increase in diabetes-related deaths.

Dry Eye Syndrome

Many people get dry eyes now and then, but millions of people around the world have to deal with the painful and sometimes crippling effects of dry eyes on a daily basis. Dry eye symptoms can be caused by a variety of factors, including altitude, temperature, humidity levels, wind, air pollution, and a variety of ocular irritants. Treatment can range from over-the-counter eye drops to prescription medication.

Eye Allergies

Eye allergies are among the most common diseases worldwide, characterized by an adverse reaction or increased sensitivity to foreign substances known as allergens.

Eye Infections

Infections of the eye may be caused by bacteria, viruses, or even allergies, and they need immediate treatment from an eye doctor. If conditions are not treated quickly and vigorously, more serious ocular disorders may develop.

Eye Inflammation

Inflammation of eye tissue may be caused by bacterial, viral, or environmental causes, and it is often painful and necessitates the attention of an eye care professional. Overexposure to ultraviolet light is a common environmental factor that causes inflammation of the cornea or conjunctiva on a global scale. Cataracts can be caused by repeated exposure and inflammation.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a vision-threatening optic nerve condition that is often caused by high intraocular pressure. Glaucoma, the world's second leading cause of blindness, affects different people in different ways. African Americans, for example, are five times more likely than Caucasians to develop glaucoma. Our doctor treats and manages Glaucoma for his patients using the most state-of-the-art equipment and techniques.

Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism & Presbyopia

There are eye disorders that cause vision that is less than optimal. Myopia (short-sightedness or nearsightedness) induces distorted distance vision. Far-sightedness, also known as hyperopia, causes blurry near vision. Presbyopia is the deterioration of one's ability to concentrate close-up as one gets older, and astigmatism is an irregularly formed cornea that can distort vision throughout all ranges.
